WELCOME MESSAGE

A warm welcome to the Oncology Nurse Leadership Programme (ONLEP) in Africa. ONLEP in Africa is a collaboration between the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC), City Cancer Challenge (C/Can) and Amgen.
ONLEP in Africa a 6-month post-graduate certificate programme designed to enhance the leadership capacity of oncology nurses in Africa. It is aimed to equip nurses with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead effectively in the dynamic and challenging health care system. It is estimated that each of the participants in the certificate programme will spend 6 months with a two-week face-to-face session at the beginning of the programme and a one-week face-to-face session at the end of the programme. The remaining weeks between these two periods will involve online sessions.
ONLEP in Africa is the first of its kind in the African continent. It is planned to equip nurses with tools that go beyond clinical knowledge, focusing on leadership, policy and advocacy, systems thinking, research, networking and collaboration. The programme is more than a training course. It marks a new chapter for strengthening Africa’s cancer care workforce that the roles of nurses form a critical component.
The first cohort brings together 30 nurses from 7 African countries (Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Malawi, Kenya and South Africa), gathering in Ghana for in-person sessions at UHAS. What unites them is a clear drive to improve outcomes for cancer patients, not only through care, but through effective leadership.
Our experienced facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the programme, guiding and supporting participants every step of the way. Through interactive sessions, mentorship, and collaborative learning, our facilitators will help participants to develop the skills, confidence, and networks needed to excel in their roles and drive positive change in cancer care locally and internationally.
We welcome you to explore our website to learn more about our programme, meet our facilitators, and discover the opportunities available to you. We look forward to a collaboration with you that will make a difference in the lives of patients and families affected by cancer.
