Captain Phumzile Mthethwa, an oncology nurse at the Military Hospital in Gauteng Province, Pretoria, South Africa, received well-deserved recognition at the Military Excellence Awards and Formal Dinner ceremony on June 11, 2026. 

With gratitude, Captain Mthethwa acknowledged that the ONLEP Africa programme has empowered her with invaluable knowledge, allowing her to achieve this remarkable honour. Her passionate advocacy for establishing a specialised oncology ward at her hospital has been a driving force behind this success. This commitment has led stakeholders to embrace the vision of creating a specialised oncology ward at her hospital soon.

Captain Mthethwa expressed her heartfelt appreciation to ONLEP Africa and Professor Lydia Aziato for the opportunity to gain knowledge. She also expresses her appreciation to her Operations Manager and Chief Matron for their support and the opportunities she has received.
